The Bluebell Tearoom serves traditional Scottish Afternoon Tea. More than just a tearoom, it is a place where traditional crafts and skills from hand painted china to hand made cakes are celebrated. The Bluebell epitomises certain values – civilised behaviour, high standards, friendliness and courtesy and this forms an important part of what makes it special. Teabags are absolutely forbidden for example: it only serves freshly brewed leaf tea.
Scottish Afternoon Tea is associated with the home more than the High Street.Traditional Scottish family recipes such as Boiled Fruitcake, Ecclefechan Tarts and Dumpling are almost on the verge of extinction. Our job was to position this as a Scottish equivalent of the Japanese tea ceremony.
The logo features the national flower of Scotland, a harebell. A doily was combined with a traditional blue textile pattern to suggest both kitchen-freshness and attention to detail. These materials also appear in the interior design of the tea room. Small touches appear such as tiny teacup cut outs in the doily. At the same time the basic simplicity of the brand is underlined in the sparing use of colour and the strong connectivity with the interior of the tearoom.
